One of the greatest crimes being committed by modern leftism, is racism. We should not be surprised, however. Racism was never Republican. But a myth is floating around American universities, a myth that says the color of your skin absolves you of your heritage. Some would have you believe that a black student need not study the accomplishments of “dead white males”.
American heritage belongs to everyone. Why should any individual be excluded, or exclude themselves from this heritage? What right do they have to do so? Is that not the very thing racists uphold, the judgment of one’s character through their race? How could that have been the desire of great men, such as Martin Luther King? How could we betray their efforts after so much sacrifice?
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Many of those who wish to turn away from history have been here since the beginning. The life of the nation runs through their veins. Their ancestors were not immigrants, but founders, both willing and unwilling.
To turn against history, because of the race of its inhabitants, is racism. Our western history is not about the creation of slavery. Our western history is about great white males who opposed slavery, such as Abraham Lincoln, who was white;
“Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves” – Abraham Lincoln
The estimated cost of ending slavery in America may have been over one million lives. American history is about the end of slavery, not the existence of it.
